Once upon a time, you were stuck with Krylon and Rust-Oleum or whatever off-brand shitty paint that your local hardware store carried. You would come to know that even though it may be your favorite color, Krylon Banner Red didn’t cover for shit and Sunshine Yellow took forever to dry which meant you couldn’t cut back your lines without risking runs. You had to know which brand of oven cleaner or carb cleaner had the best fat caps and how and where to get them.
I still remember the first time I learned how to make ink by soaking like fifty ball point pens in brake cleaner. I also remember the first time I walked down my favorite isle and found all the paint locked up in a cage… and they wanted ID to buy it. Then Krylon changed their cap design and ruined everything.
Graffiti has come a long way. Last week I walked into the Silika Store in Tacoma and fifteen year old me was smiling from ear to ear. They have everything you need; caps by the handful, markers, mops and paint in every shade imaginable.
And the best part? You’re welcome here. No one is going to sweat you when you walk in the door or grill you on why you want paint.
Go check out the shop (711 Court C in Tacoma) and while you’re there, make sure you check out the massive collection of glass goods, art, clothing and other rad stuff.
